Keeping Kreider always made sense. Despite the Rangers position in the standings there are far more plusses than minuses. They are on the verge of being a playoff team and he's the perfect veteran to lead the young guys.

While this makes sense to me, if the plan is to keep him I'd still trade him. Teams will be willing to grab him for a playoff run, but they'd to give up less, so the Rangers could still bank some assets.

Kreider's cap hit is really only an issue for NYR next year; and they have options on how to deal with that. Then it's really not a problem. They have a lot of draft picks already so there isn't much need to move him to restock.

For the Rangers? I don’t agree. Kreider has been pretty inconsistent his entire career which most ranger fans can tell you. He’ll get overpaid like any FA he’s not taking some home town discount like some Ranger fans want to believe on his last contract.

If they sign him they’ll have a helluva hard time signing ADA and Strome who have both earned new contracts to keep an inconsistent player who will most probably start regressing soon after the ink dries on his contract. As an islander fan I’m all for it. Lock him up for eight years👍

They can trade 1 or more of Strome, Buch, Fast, Smith (Hopefully), Georgi, etc.

As long as the Rangers don't sign him to Hayes money , they will be fine...

But in this case I get the sense the Rangers legit feel that Kreider is an important player to keep around

The Rangers literally have the opposite of cap issues. Next season is the last season of Staal, Smith and Hank. They'll be in prime position to find a way to move Staal and/or Smith off their books one way or another.

I think few teams will actually be in the prime financial position than the Rangers when you consider the young talent and space to build around them. If I thought the Pens' window was still a good three or four years I'd definitely be fearing the Rangers more than any other team in the Metro

I am told the Oilers, who were high on Kreider, may be looking elsewhere, and Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Chicago are stepping to the front of the sweeps.

If the Rangers do want to resign him, the best offer would be to have a handshake deal in place (no paper trail), trade him for assets, and then resign him on July 1st.

I just don’t get the hype over Kreider. Depending on where we goes, I don’t see him being THAT big of a difference maker. I miss the days when a Rick Nash/game breaker was made available. I pity the team that probably overpays for him, & then again for the team that overpays for him in free agency

Yeah sure but my point was keeping strome number one. Georgi is a given but that still leaves you with not much room to sign ADA and Strome. You sign Kreider for seven million you’re not making up that cap space by trading who you mentioned and also locking up ADA unless both players take less than they could get on the open market. Not happening. So my point remains. You keep Kreider you’re most likely not signing ADA or Strome.
Like I said I hope you sign kreider. God speed👍

Oh this makes complete sense.

Quite the explanation 😂

While you’re at it can you explain to me how the Islanders will find a way to get rid of Komarov next season?

I guess we’ll “find a way”.

He's not a superstar, but neither were guys like Mark Recchi in 2006 or Bill Guerin in 2008. But he's a guy who can play a big role on a good team.
